Eagles plotting ‘big swing’ with trade as sights set on Myles Garrett after Super Bowl 2025 win

The rich could be getting richer.

Eagles general manager Howie Roseman is “looking to make a big swing” following the team’s Super Bowl 2025 win earlier this month in targeting disgruntled Browns star Myles Garrett, according to The Athletic’s Dianna Russini.

“Here’s what some people are saying right now, that Howie’s willing to move on from some of these guys cause he’s looking to make a big swing and take a big swing, and that big swing would be for Myles Garrett,” Russini said on Friday’s installment of her “Scoop City” podcast.

“So, some of these guys that you think are a sure thing may not be sure things to return to Philly.”

The name of impending free-agent linebacker Zack Baun was floated during Friday’s show, which also features former NFL quarterback Chase Daniel.

Re-signing Baun, a key component of Philadelphia’s Super Bowl-winning roster, is a “priority” for the Birds, according to recent reports.

Defensive end Josh Sweat is another pending free agent.

The Eagles are flying high following their 40-22 dismantling of the reigning Super Bowl champion Chiefs in this month’s championship contest in New Orleans.

Garrett, a six-time Pro Bowl defensive end, made it clear in his public trade request he has his sights set on a Super Bowl.

“While I’ve loved calling this city my home, my desire to win and compete on the biggest stage won’t allow me to be complacent. The goal was never to go from Cleveland Canton, it has always been to compete for and win a Super Bowl. With that in mind, I have requested to be traded from the Cleveland Browns,” the 29-year-old said in a statement.

Friday’s Eagles report comes on the heels of a new twist in the saga, with Cleveland.com reporting Thursday Garrett and his camp have “slammed the door shut on negotiations.”

Browns general manager Andrew Berry has maintained the club isn’t interested in trading the 2023 Defensive Player of the Year.

The Browns finished the 2024 season at 3-14 and missed the playoffs. They hold the No. 2 overall pick in this year’s draft and could potentially take a quarterback as incumbent Deshaun Watson recovers from an Achilles injury.

Watson underwent surgery in January after rupturing the tendon again. He suffered an Achilles tear back in October.

Garrett stated in December he’s “not trying to rebuild,” telling ESPN he’s “trying to win right now.”

The Browns selected Garrett No. 1 overall in the 2017 NFL Draft.
