INDIANAPOLIS â The Giants were scheduled to be in Seattle the first week of October and so it made sense for Joe Schoen to be scouting on the West Coast that weekend. He wanted to get a look at Miami quarterback Cam Ward and so he attended the game against California in Berkeley.
Schoen, the Giantsâ general manager, saw Ward toss a pick-six interception as Miami fell behind 35-10. Then Schoen saw Ward lead the Hurricanes to touchdowns on four consecutive drives in a wild 39-38 victory. Ward tossed a scoring pᴀss with 26 seconds remaining for the winning points.
âÂÂSome of it was, they were in a hole because of him, but he also was able to get them out of it, and they won the game because of him,âÂÂâ Schoen said this week at the NFL scouting combine.
âÂÂThose are traits that you look for. The gotta-have-it moments ⦠to bring a team back. When everybody in the building knows youâre going to throw it, that you can throw it. Thereâs several quarterbacks in this draft that are like that, not just Cam.âÂÂâÂÂ
