Myles Garrett’s Browns drama takes another twist following trade request

It looks like Myles Garrett has added another wrinkle into his feud with the Browns.

Garrett, 29, told the Browns on Friday that he will not sign an extension with the team, according to multiple reports.

The star defensive end initially requested a trade from Cleveland last month, saying that his goals simply do not line up with the Browns.

“Speaking with the management at the Browns, I don’t feel like our future is aligned with winning right now,” Garrett told ESPN’s “NFL Countdown” hours before Super Bowl LIX. “And that’s what I’m looking forward to do at this stage of my career.”

However, Browns GM Andrew Berry recently insisted that the team has no plans to send him off.

“Myles, as you guys have all heard me say, he’s a huge part of our organization, really good person, he’s an awesome player,” Berry told Cleveland.com. “I understand the trade request and everything, but our stance really has not changed. We can’t imagine a situation where not having Myles as a part of the organization is best for the Browns.”

“I wouldn’t really touch on any conversations that I have with other teams, just respectfully,” Berry added. “I don’t think that’s appropriate just for current and future business, but it’s irrelevant to this situation because we’re not interested in trading Myles.”

Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski concurred with Berry’s feelings, standing firm that he plans on finding success in the future.

“I also want to win,” Stefanski told Cleveland.com. “I also want to win a championship. That’s just how we’re wired and we’re working very hard towards that goal.”

The Browns’ No. 1 overall pick in 2017 has spent the entirety of his eight-year NFL career with Cleveland, earning himself six NFL All-Pro selections, along with being named Defensive Player of the Year in 2023.

Garrett previously stated in December that he is not “trying to rebuild,” amid the Browns abysmal 3-14 season.
