Zach Wilson’s mom Lisa has revealed the quarterback’s dad Mike is currently battling a serious liver problem in an emotional video on social media.
Lisa Neeleman Wilson, who has six children with husband Mike including NFL star Zach, shared the heartbreaking news to her Instagram followers while fighting back the tears on Thursday.
‘I am actually at the hospital because my husband, my big, strong, handsome husband that is not sick at all, that feels amazing, that feels better than he ever has in his whole entire life… he’s getting a liver biopsy,’ she announced.
‘This is actually kind of personal information, and so I haven’t really shared it yet, but I’m going to be ok. I’m just a really emotional person and it’s a hard day for me.’
Lisa then explained how Mike, her husband of 28 years, stumbled upon his medical issue when they took blood tests together after embarking on a ‘wellness journey’.
‘We did not do it because anyone didn’t feel good or anyone was sick, we 100 percent did it because we just wanted a game plan for our wellness,’ she said.

‘So we got our blood drawn at the start of our journey, maybe a year and a half a go, and he had really high liver enzymes. Everything else looked great, he looked really healthy, and he was healthier then. So they thought maybe he had fatty liver.’
After being advised to lose weight in order to reduce his liver enzymes, Lisa claims Mike ended up shedding roughly 100 pounds in the gym, only to be told his condition was deteriorating.
‘Then he went and got his blood taken again and it’s just getting worse and worse and worse and worse,’ she continued.
Mike is now undergoing a biopsy to determine what Lisa says is ‘causing his liver to be so p****d off’.
She also revealed that her husband has never consumed alcohol in his life, despite liver problems most commonly affecting those who drink.
‘I’m a little bit bitter right now, I’m a little p****d off,’ she fumed. ‘We’ve worked our whole lives for this moment, and so I’m praying everything’s going to be ok.’
Mike, who was a defensive lineman for Utah in his day, coached son Zach at youth level before he eventually made the step up to the NFL in 2021.
However, he revealed in 2023 that he was initially reluctant to do so. ‘I am like, “I am not coaching,”‘ Mike told Desert News about being asked to step up and coach Zach’s flag-football team.

After Mike agreed to coach a five-year-old Zach, 13 years later his son headed into the NFL Draft as a top prospect following an impressive college career with BYU.
He was eventually selected by the New York Jets as a No. 2 draft pick that year, but failed to live up to his promise at MetLife Stadium before being let go in 2024.
Wilson headed to Denver last year after the Jets struck a trade with the Broncos, only to fail to make an appearance over the course of the season as third-choice quarterback.
He is now set to become a free agent this offseason, with the Broncos unwilling to exercise the fifth-year option on his contract.
