Why playing the expectations game could backfire on these Jets

INDIANAPOLIS — The new Jets regime is at the NFL Draft Scouting Combine this week as they begin their roster construction for 2025. The week in Indy includes meetings with college prospects, agents for current players and chatter with other teams. It sets the groundwork for free agency in two weeks and the NFL draft in two months.

Another component of the combine is press conferences by GMs and coaches. Aaron Glenn and Darren Mougey met with the media Tuesday, and they did not reveal much. But one thing stood out to me — they talked about winning immediately.

“We’re here to win now, and we’re looking forward to it,” Glenn said.

Sometimes a new coach and GM enter a job, and you can tell they are trying to buy time. No one ever says the word “rebuild,” but there can be talk about how young a team is or about how the objective is for the team to get better or grow in Year 1.
