Raiders GM John Spytek reveals the truth about working with Tom Brady in Las Vegas

Raiders General Manager John Spytek believes he would be a ‘special idiot’ not to lean on the genius of Tom Brady as they look to rebuild Las Vegas.

Brady is a minority investor in the Raiders but team owner Mark Davis has previously revealed that the former quarterback will have a ‘huge voice’ in shaping the future of the franchise.

The NFL legend’s influence was underscored on Tuesday, when it emerged that Matthew Stafford visited Brady’s Montana home, where they spent time together and went skiing.

It was part of Brady’s reported attempt to lure the Super-Bowl winning quarterback from the Los Angeles Rams to Las Vegas.

Brady’s minority role with the Raiders was confirmed late last year and, since then, Las Vegas has hired Spytek and a new head coach, Pete Carroll.

The general manager is currently in Indianapolis for the NFL Combine and Spytek opened up on the extent of Brady’s role with the Raiders.

‘I’d be some kind of special idiot not to rely on him, with whatever he’s willing to give,’ he told CBS.

‘He’s a busy person but I also know how much he loves football – he loves football more than just about anything in his life and I’m acutely aware of that. So to give him a call, to bounce an idea off him – “what do you think about this?” – has been great.’

Spytek added: ‘No 1 he wants to do it but No 2 he wants to help the Raiders be great. He really is doing this for all the right reasons. He is about compeтιтion and winning and we’re not going to say sorry for any other way to approach it.

‘So I stay in contact with him pretty frequently and keep him updated. But he’s also happy to share his opinion as well.’

The Raiders are chasing a new quarterback and Spytek confirmed that Brady will as involved in player interviews ‘as he wants to be’.

‘But right now he’s trusting to us to do this the right way and just relay him information as needed,’ he said. ‘But where and when he wants to be a part of it, we’ll certainly welcome that interaction.’
