Jets ‘have a plan’ to address $38 million Davante Adams issue — but remain mum on details

INDIANAPOLIS — Though the Jets have made it known they are moving on from Aaron Rodgers, they are still not saying what their plan is for Rodgers’ running mate Davante Adams.

General manager Darren Mougey and coach Aaron Glenn would only say that the star wide receiver is still on the roster … for now.

“He’s on the team right now,” Glenn said. “We’ve got to continue to have conversations about how we’re going to move in that direction. We’re in the business of collecting good players. We’ll see how that goes moving forward.”

Adams has a $38.3 million salary cap figure for 2025, making it likely the Jets are going to cut him.

They could be trying to trade him before making that move.

Mougey would not say whether he has given Adams and his agent permission to talk to other teams yet.

“Davante is on the team right now,” Mougey said. “Obviously, we have a plan there. In the next few weeks we’ll kind of address that issue. Now he’s on the team.”

If the Jets wanted Adams to return, they would have to work out a new deal for 2025, but it is unlikely that Adams wants to remain without Rodgers.

Mougey would not say if there is a plan to have talks with WR Garrett Wilson or CB Sauce Gardner about contract extensions. The 2022 first-round picks are eligible for extensions entering their fourth seasons.

“I’m just excited those guys are on the roster, two young, good players, talented players,” Mougey said. “I’m excited they’re part of the roster.”

He was asked if it is on his “to-do list” to get something done with them.

“The to-do list is to keep good, young players on the team and to add good players,” Mougey said.

As expected, Mougey left the door open to various options at No. 7 overall in the draft.
