Teams split on Travis Hunter’s best NFL position

There is still no clarity surrounding the primary position for dynamic two-way Heisman winner Travis Hunter in the NFL.

Hunter was listed at cornerback for the upcoming NFL Scouting Combine, but that has not ended the debate, as even the teams with the draft’s top two picks, the тιтans and Browns, cannot come to an agreement on the Colorado star’s official designation.

“His super power really is ball skills,” Browns GM Andrew Berry told reporters on Tuesday. “[Wide receiver is] a position where you can use it 100 times during the season versus maybe 30.”

While Cleveland may prefer Hunter as a receiver, Tennessee and its first overall pick beg to differ.

“He probably starts at corner,” тιтans head coach Brian Callahan said.

While they did reveal their preferences, Berry and Callahan still believe you’ll see Hunter play both ways.

While cornerback is “probably [Hunter’s] starting point,” Callahan said he would then “find ways to interject him into the offense.”

“As he gets more comfortable, he plays more and more offensively,” Callahan added.

Berry didn’t reveal any specific plans he would have for Hunter playing both ways if Cleveland were to draft him, but emphasized how difficult it is to pinpoint Hunter to just one position.

“It’s six one way, half-dozen another,” Berry said. “He can play both.”

In his Heisman-winning final season at Colorado, Hunter played 688 defensive snaps and 672 offensive snaps.

“He’s a unique player,” Callahan said. “There’s not many guys who have played that many snaps on both sides of the ball.”

Hunter was elite on both sides, totaling 92 catches, 1,152 yards and 15 total touchdowns on offense, and four interceptions, 32 tackles and 11 pᴀss breakups on defense.

“You watch his tape and you see his ability to play both at a very high level. I think anybody that you talk to about him is gonna say the same thing that he’s got the ability to play both,” Callahan said. “You’re gonna find out where he fits if you were to get him.”
