New York Knicks star Josh Hart is giving upon his dream of winning an Academy Award after getting fined $2,000 for an egregious flop in Sunday’s loss to the Boston Celtics.
The 29-year-old Villanova product was penalized Monday after cameras caught him embellishing some contact with Celtics guard Jrue Holiday during a Knicks fast break. Hart was clearly hooked by Holiday’s left arm, but somehow went flailing in another direction as the Celtics star moved up court.
Veteran official Tony Brothers wasn’t fooled with the performance and play continued with the Celtics leading 80-60 in the third quarter. Boston would go on to win 118-105.
Responding to his fine on X, the always humorous Hart joked: ‘Dang no Oscar for me.’
But NBA fans, clearly exhausted with player flops, weren’t laughing.
‘Shoulda fined him more than that,’ one fan remarked on X.

‘At least make it 20k,’ another added.
‘We need more examples made of this crap,’ one fan wrote before disagreeing with Hart: ‘He should have won an academy award for that one.
NBA players can be fined $2,000 for a first flopping offense, with penalties increasing with each transgression.
Referees are not required to stop play to whistle a flopping violation. Instead, flopping fines are ᴀssessed by the Commissioner’s office.
The humorous moment couldn’t distract from the fact that the Knicks are now 0-7 against the defending-champion Celtics as well as the Cleveland Cavaliers and Oklahoma City Thunder, the Eastern and Western Conference’s respective first-place teams.
‘We’re not trying to close the gap with the Boston Celtics,’ Hart told reporters in Boston on Sunday.
‘They’re the champs for a reason. They’ve got all-NBA guys, they’ve got All-Stars, a heck of team. We’re not trying to close the gap on them. We’re trying to make sure we get ourselves where we need to be at the end of the year, and right now we’re not there.
‘We’ve all got to step up to the plate,’ Hart added. ‘We’ve really got to start building. Right now, we’ve got the possibility that we might face [Boston] down the road. We’ve got to continue to get better.’
The Knicks were expected to compete for an NBA тιтle this season after acquiring All-Star Karl-Anthony Towns and versatile forward Mikal Bridges over the summer.
‘It’s an on-going process,’ Knicks coach and former Celtics ᴀssistant Tom Thibodeau said when asked if they’ve closed the gap with Boston. ‘[That] team is a well-oiled machine. They’ve been together a while. We have to keep learning and getting better.’
