Jordan Mailata's incredible act during Super Bowl celebrations praised by Philadelphia Eagles fans

Australian Jordan Mailata has made history again – this time by celebrating the Philadelphia Eagles’ Super Bowl LIX victory with an unforgettable performance.

Five days after the Eagles’ commanding 40-22 win over the Kansas City Chiefs, Mailata led a pᴀssionate Philadelphia crowd in singing Queen’s ‘We Are the Champions’ during the team’s victory parade on Saturday (AEDT).

‘I’m not one for speeches but I know how to sing,’ Mailata declared before launching into the song.

The 27-year-old offensive tackle, who became the first Australian to play in and win a Super Bowl, played a pivotal role in securing the Eagles’ victory.

Throughout the championship game, his presence on the offensive line contributed to the team’s dominant performance against the Chiefs.

During the victory parade, Mailata took a moment to express graтιтude to the significant others of the players, recognising the sacrifices made by their families.

‘We can’t forget about our significant others,’ he said.

Later, aboard an open-top parade bus, Mailata joined in the celebration with Eagles fans, at one point taking off his shirt and reveling in the moment.

The Australian was already a beloved figure in Philadelphia, but his engagement with the crowd only deepened their admiration.

Mailata also took time during the festivities to share a personal moment with a young fan, gifting him his championship cap.

The gesture came after another fan had handed him a bottle of champagne as a token of appreciation.

‘This is amazing. I love our fans, I love our city, I love what they’re about,’ Mailata said.

The celebration drew thousands of Eagles fans, many of whom camped out overnight to secure the best viewing spots along the parade route.

Some climbed trees, ladders, and even statues near City Hall to get a better look at their NFL heroes.

Mailata’s performance of ‘We Are the Champions’ became the highlight of the day. However, his vocal talent was no surprise to those familiar with his background. In

2022, he competed on The Masked Singer US as ‘Thingamabob,’ impressing audiences with renditions of Bon Jovi’s ‘ᴅᴇᴀᴅ or Alive’ and Ed Sheeran’s ‘Perfect.’

‘Man, I’ve been singing all my life,’ Mailata revealed after his unmasking on the show.

‘I was a singer before I was any sort of athlete.

‘I played Rugby in Australia and I decided four years ago to try and take a dip in the other side of the water in the NFL and it ended up paying off. If you want to do something, just do it. Have fun doing it as well.’

Eagles supporter Shaun Barden, who proudly wore Mailata’s #68 jersey, praised the Australian.

‘Amazing human being, that’s what we’ve got,’ he said.

‘When asked why he chose Mailata’s jersey over those of quarterback Jalen Hurts or running back Saquon Barkley, Barden replied, ‘He’s a beast, he’s a f***ing beast … He’s the reason we were taking care of business.’

Australian expat Mick Dunn, who attended the parade with his wife Kim and son Ben, echoed the sentiment.

‘We had to be here … My wife’s from Philly, so we had to represent,’ he said.

‘Mailata’s a great guy, great player.’

Philadelphia Mayor Cherelle Parker urged fans to keep the celebration safe, especially after a tragic incident during the NFC Championship celebrations.

‘Do not climb any light poles,’ she warned.

‘In the midst of all this beauty, all of the sacrifices this team has made to meet this moment, we don’t want it to all go by the wayside.’

Despite the mayor’s request, many fans climbed trees, traffic lights, and city vehicles to get a glimpse of their favorite players.

Some fans perched themselves atop portable toilets and city trucks, while one reportedly threw a beer can at general manager Howie Roseman, causing a cut on his forehead.

‘I bleed for this city,’ Roseman said while puffing on a victory cigar.
