NFL RedZone host Scott Hanson could quit for shock new job

Scott Hanson is in talks with NBC Sports about a potential new role that ranges from Olympics to NFL coverage.

Hanson, known famously as the host of NFL RedZone has been with the NFL Network since 2006 and anchored the Sunday afternoon whiparound coverage since 2009.

The Genesis of his probable next move came when he lent his voice to NBC for their rendition of the concept for the Olympics, called Gold Zone.

Front Office Sports reported that Hanson is in talks of returning to NBC for the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan and Cortina, Italy. He could also return for the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles.

Hanson earned raving reviews from NBC Olympics production president, Molly Solomon, for his work during the Paris Olympics. Speaking to FOS in September, Solomon praised Hanson’s enthusiastic narration of the Olympic action.

‘Scott brought his inimitable enthusiasm and energy to GoldZone. NFL fans loved watching him transfer his ‘all-in’ mentality from football Sundays to the Paris Olympics,’ Hanson told the outlet.

‘Each of our four hosts brought his own unique personality to the show, and Scott was certainly a key contributor to our process of re-imagining how GoldZone could be experienced and consumed going forward.’

Bestselling author of ‘The Fault in Our Stars’, John Green also tweeted his praises for Hanson’s work during the summer games.

‘I’ve taken a lot of drugs in my life but I’ve never taken a drug like Peacock’s Olympic Gold Zone,’ he wrote. ‘What a rush.’

Hanson is still in negotiations to return to NFL Media. However, sources told Front Office Sports that the negotiations have stalled amid talks for ESPN to take over NFL Media and NFL RedZone.

Should he leave NFL media, fellow Syracuse alumnus Andrew Siciliano could take his spot on RedZone. Siciliano hosted DirecTV’s rival Red Zone channel from 2005 to 2023.

On the other hand, if ESPN gains control, the network could also look deep into its roster of talent for a new host.

Earlier this week, NBC announced that GoldZone and multiview will return next year along with an evening show dubbed Primetime in Milan, featuring top stars, events, and stories.

Front Office Sports first reported that Hanson could test free agency in September.
