Dolphins cut former Pro Bowl running back Raheem Mostert

The Miami Dolphins are releasing 2023 Pro Bowler and 10-year veteran running back Raheem Mostert.

“Looks like my client Raheem Mostert will be playing elsewhere next season,” Mostert’s agent Brett Tessler posted on X Friday afternoon. “Very thankful for his time with the Miami Dolphins, and this gives them a chance to get younger and gives him a chance to pursue a ring elsewhere.”

Mostert turns 33 years old in April and had a down year this past season with just 278 rushing yards and two touchdowns in 13 games, spending much of his time behind De’Von Achane.

Mostert played the best football of his career a season prior when he posted 1,012 yards on the ground and 21 total touchdowns in 15 games.

The 21 touchdowns led the NFL — 18 of them were rushing which also led the league.

The move will save the Dolphins $2.9 million in cap space and clear the runway for Achane to take even more of the backfield workload.

Achane posted 1,499 all-purpose yards and 12 total touchdowns this past season in just his second year in the NFL.

Previously, Mostert had found a home with the San Francisco 49ers, where he played for six years.

He tallied 1,610 yards and 11 touchdowns on the ground in that time, not really finding his stride until joining Miami when he bested his San Francisco numbers in just three seasons with the Dolphins.

Despite being past what is considered a running back’s prime years, Mostert has always been considered one of the fastest backs in the league and, proven by his 18 rushing touchdowns just two seasons ago, he does not lack physicality either.

Likely in the waning years of his career, Mostert will now search for a new home to try and get a Super Bowl ring before his career closes.

Miami went just 8-9 and missed the playoffs this season.
