Chiefs coach described Patrick Mahomes as a 'terror' and a 'burden' before Super Bowl loss to Eagles

Kansas City Chiefs pᴀssing coordinator Joe Bleymaier opened up about working with Patrick Mahomes before their catastrophic loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in the Super Bowl.

Days before the big showdown in New Orleans, Bleymaier talked about the pressure coaches feel working with a generational talent like Mahomes.

Despite the quarterback’s impeccable ability on the field, the coach admitted working with a GOAT candidate is not just a walk in the park.

‘It makes it so much more stressful,’ Bleymaier told ESPN on Wednesday of Super Bowl week.

‘You feel the burden as a coach and as you’re putting a game plan together to not waste his abilities,’ he continued. ‘To not go through a season where you don’t give him the opportunity. To not screw it up as the coaching staff.

‘So rather than feeling like this just unbridled excitement that we could do anything, it’s actually more like a terror, like we cannot be the reason that we screwed this guy up or this team up.’

Bleymaier, who formulates the game plan with coach Andy Reid, offensive coordinator Matt Nagy, and the Chiefs staff, wonders, ‘Are we utilizing him the best? Are we giving him the stuff that he needs? It’s just constantly second-guessing ourselves just so that he has everything he needs to go be himself.’

Come game day, Mahomes and the Chiefs offense were shut down by Philadelphia as the Eagles soared toward a 40-22 victory.

Although Mahomes found his rhythm late in the game, the Eagles defense shut him down to a scoreless first half and sacked him six times in the defensive showcase.

With the three-peat spoiled, many argue that the debate between him and Tom Brady has been put to bed.

Mahomes holds a 3-2 Super Bowl record with three MVPs, 10 touchdown pᴀsses, and seven interceptions. On the other hand, Brady is 7-3 with five MVPs, 21 ᴀssists and six picks.

Nonetheless, the 29-year-old has more opportunities to win more тιтles to add to the three he’s won so far in his career.
