Footage emerges of unrecognizable Super Bowl hero competing in a very different sport in middle school

Saquon Barkley may have been the spark plug that led the Philadelphia Eagles to their first Super Bowl win in seven years on Sunday. He also was a multi-sport athlete growing up.

A clip of a sixth-grade Barkley in a wrestling match has surfaced on Reddit, with it appearing to be posted by his opponent on the mat from more than two decades ago.

The home video from the poster’s father sees Barkley in the all-black singlet facing off with an opponent with a yellow and green trim on his uniform.

According to the original poster MacThaRipper, it was during a Pennsylvania grade-school dual between Whitehall and Emmaus.

Barkley puts up a good fight, including a near fall before getting reversed and eventually pinned by his opponent.

Before the now Super Bowl-winner was defeated, he bridged several times before the combatants ran into the referee trying to count the pinfall.

Barkley clearly found the right sport in football as the best running back in the NFL.

His first season with the Eagles went near-perfectly as the NFL’s leading rusher and the eventual Super Bowl тιтle.

‘I was waiting for him to jump over your head backwards,’ one Reddit commenter said, mentioning Barkley’s most famous moment from this past season.

Barkley attended Whitehall High School in Central Pennsylvania before coming a star at Penn State.

Now, he’s won a Super Bowl in his home state as well, two decades after his defeat in the clip.
