Bison latifrons, also known as giant bison or Ice Age bison, is an extinct species of bison that lived in the great prairies of the present-day United States in the late Pleistocene, appeared about 500,000 years ago and survived until 25-30,000 years ago:

It is the largest species of bison that has ever existed, the height at the withers was 2.5 meters, which probably also makes it the largest bovid. The giant bison was equipped with long curved horns, which could reach up to 2 meters in length. The Bison latifrons was a herbivorous animal, and fed mainly on grᴀsses and succulents.

It lived in large herds, which could number hundreds of individuals. The reasons for the extinction of Bison latifrons are not yet entirely clear, but it is thought to have been due to a combination of factors, including climate change and hunting by humans. The Bison latifrons is a fascinating animal, and its history reminds us of the importance of protecting the biodiversity of our planet.
