EXCLUSIVEStephen A. Smith: Why Patrick Mahomes can surpᴀss Tom Brady as NFL's GOAT if he wins Super Bowl

Stephen A. Smith believes a Chiefs three-peat could see Patrick Mahomes eclipse Tom Brady and become the greatest NFL quarterback of all time.

Brady won a record seven Super Bowls during a remarkable career with the New England Patriots and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Mahomes would still be three shy of that total, even if the Chiefs beat the Eagles in Super Bowl LIX on Sunday night.

But the 29-year-old has now led his team to five of the last six Super Bowls and can complete a three-peat in New Orleans – something Brady never managed.

‘If he wins, and he plays spectacularly in doing so, I think he can make a legitimate argument that he’s the greatest ever,’ ESPN star Smith told DailyMail.com

‘I know that Tom Brady has seven rings and he would have four… but it ain’t his fault that he’s considerably younger than Tom Brady – and he wasn’t playing when Tom Brady was playing.’

Smith continued: ‘(In) seven years as a starter… he’s won a division crown every year. He’s been in the AFC Championship game every year, and five times now he will have been in the Super Bowl – and it’s possible that he will win his fourth Super Bowl тιтle.’

Victory against the Eagles on Sunday would give Mahomes an 18-3 record in the postseason. Brady, who will call the game on Fox Sports, went 35-13 in the playoffs.

The 47-year-old handed Mahomes two of his three postseason losses, including in Super Bowl LV. But Smith pointed out that the Chiefs star has one extra string to his bow – an ability to run with the ball that his predecessor never had.

‘When you look at what (Mahomes) has done in his first seven years, imagining what he’ll do thereafter… plus his ability to run with the football, which Tom Brady never had. All those things being considered, you can make an argument that he will be the greatest.’

Smith is in New Orleans ahead of the end-of-season showpiece. He told DailyMail.com that he is refusing to make his pick until Friday. ‘I’m leaning towards Philadelphia, but I reserve the right to change my mind,’ he said.
