Matthew, Kelly Stafford party in Cabo as Rams trade rumors swirl

Matthew Stafford enjoyed some R&R with his wife Kelly in Cabo San Lucas as buzz swirls about his next landing spot.

The Rams quarterback informed the team that he wants to play next season, but his future in Los Angeles reportedly remains uncertain.

The couple took a parents-only trip to Mexico with former MLB player Trevor Plouffe and his wife Olivia and former NFL quarterback Jimmy Clausen and his wife Jess, as seen in pH๏τos Kelly posted to her Instagram on Wednesday.

“A time was had!” Jess wrote on her Instagram Story.

The couples played golf, lounged on a yacht, and sipped cocktails by the beach.

Kelly previously gushed over the trip on her “Timeout” podcast last week following the Rams’ season-ending 28-22 loss to the Eagles in the divisional round.

The mother of four explained that she heard rumors about Stafford’s future and speculation that he could potentially retire after his 16th season.

“He would like to play in 2025 and I’m excited. We’ll see if it happens,” Kelly said prior to the quarterback’s comments that he will return to play next season. “He’s slinging it around pretty good still.

“I feel like he’s weirdly in his prime in a lot of different areas. But there is a lot that has to be figured out before we can get there.”

Stafford’s future in Los Angeles is uncertain, with the veteran carrying a team-high $49.6 million cap hit for next season.

The Rams can save $27 million by trading him after June 1, or $23 million as a post-June 1 cut.

“I just want to keep playing good football,” Stafford told Forbes in an interview published Wednesday. “I love competing. Obviously getting a chance to make runs in the playoffs, competing for Lombardi trophies is what it’s all about. Once you get a taste of one, you want more of them. I love playing this game.”

Stafford played in 16 games during the regular season without a major injury.

Kelly said he played through four cracked ribs against the Eagles in snowy Philadelphia in the divisional round.

“I feel good, pretty healthy after the season, no surgeries and I just love competing,” Stafford said. “My family loves watching me play. They want me to keep playing. It’s a blessing to have that behind me and just love going out there and competing with the teammates that I have.”

After a dismal 1-4 start to the season, the Rams came out of their bye week and won nine of the next 11 games en route to winning the NFC West.

Stafford finished the season throwing 20 touchdowns against eight interceptions and a solid 93.7 pᴀsser rating.

“I do believe there is a part of him that’s ready [to retire] and the girls are doing things he doesn’t want to miss out on,” Kelly said on her podcast. “And he’s given his life to football, eventually this is going to happen no matter what. If it’s not this year it could be next year. I think he had a great season, and if he wants to go out on that, that’s a f–king proud way to go out.”
