Heat ending Jimmy Butler drama with blockbuster multi-team trade to Warriors

The Heat-Jimmy Butler saga has reached its final chapter.

Miami is trading Butler to the Warriors in a mega-deal that includes four teams, ESPN’s Shams Charania first reported.

Butler has also agreed to a new two-year, $111 million extension with Golden State through 2026-27, per ESPN.

As part of the deal, Andrew Wiggins, P.J. Tucker, Kyle Anderson and a protected 2025 first-round draft pick will be heading to Miami while Lindy Waters III and Josh Richardson are heading to the Pistons.

Dennis Schroder and a 2031 second-round pick will be going to the Jazz, The Athletic reported.

Jimmy Butler has been suspended multiple times by the Heat this season.

According to Charania, Anderson was set to be flipped to the Raptors, but that part of the deal fell apart and he’ll remain — for now — in Miami.

The blockbuster ends a prolonged drama between the Heat and Butler, who has been suspended multiple times by the team this season after he made clear in early January that he likely would not find “joy” playing in Miami.

Now, the 35-year-old will get that chance to find it elsewhere next to future Naismith Hall of Famer Steph Curry.

In December, as rumors started to circulate about Butler wanting out of South Beach, team president Pat Riley tried to put an end to all speculation.

“We usually don’t comment on rumors, but all this speculation has become a distraction to the team and is not fair to the players and coaches,” Riley said in a statement on Dec. 26. “Therefore, we will make it clear — we are not trading Jimmy Butler.”

However, about a week later, the team said it would listen to trade offers on Butler as it suspended him — for the first of three times in January — for seven games for conduct detrimental to the team.

On Jan. 27, following another two-game suspension, Butler walked out of the team’s shootaround after finding out he was not part of the Heat’s starting lineup and was informed he was suspended indefinitely for “a continued pattern of disregard of team rules.”

Butler has not played since Jan. 21, when he scored 13 points in a shade under 27 minutes.

Shortly after the trade, Butler shared the same post on X and Instagram with the words: “Welcome to the wild wild west” and a clip of a song with the same lyrics.

The six-time All-Star has averaged 17 points, 5.2 rebounds and 4.8 ᴀssists in 25 games this season.

He comes to a Warriors team on the playoff bubble in 10th place in the Western Conference at 25-24.
