Why Donald Trump will be joining Taylor Swift in supporting Travis Kelce and the Kansas City Chiefs at Super Bowl

They may not be the best of friends, but Donald Trump and Taylor Swift will be on the same page for once at this weekend’s Super Bowl in New Orleans.

Swift is attending Sunday’s game to cheer on boyfriend Travis Kelce and the Kansas City Chiefs, who will bid to become the first team in history to win the NFL’s top prize three years in a row when they face the Philadelphia Eagles.

And as the two teams lock horns in the season-ending showpiece, newly-elected president Trump is also expected to be watching on from a private suite at Caesars Superdome.

The 78-year-old, who has reportedly been invited as a guest of honor for New Orleans Saints owner Gayle Benson, will become the the first-sitting president to attend a Super Bowl when he arrives to watch the Chiefs lock horns with the Eagles on Sunday.

Though while he may not admit it publicly, Trump will almost certainly be rooting for a Kansas City win this weekend.

Despite his long-running feud with Swift – who accused him of ‘stoking the fires of white supremacy and racism’ during his last term in office – the president will want her boyfriend’s team to emerge victorious after being snubbed by the Eagles when they claimed their first and only Super Bowl in 2018.

In light of his repeated criticism of NFL players for kneeling during national anthems to protest against police treatment of African Americans in the States, Trump’s invitation for Philadelphia to visit the White House was turned down by a number of players before it was later rescinded.

He released a statement at the time saying: ‘The Philadelphia Eagles Football Team was invited to the White House. Unfortunately, only a small number of players decided to come, and we canceled the event.

‘Staying in the Locker Room for the playing of our National Anthem is as disrespectful to our country as kneeling. Sorry!’

And to add to the tension between the two parties, just months earlier Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie had also branded his first term as president a ‘disaster’.

‘Another fact I want to throw out there: Many of us have no interest in supporting President Trump,’ Lurie said. ‘Yes, there are some. There are some players who do, too.

‘But this is not where you brandish a group of people because they own ᴀssets in a sport we love, supporting what many of us perceive as, you know, one disastrous presidency.’

In contrast to Lurie, it is believed that Chiefs owner Clark Hunt and his wife Tavia are pro-Trump

In contrast to Lurie, it is believed Chiefs owner Clark Hunt is pro-Trump after his wife Tavia shared social-media posts at the back end of last year supporting his stance on immigration.

Back in 2017, Clark also sided with then-president Trump after revealing he had urged his players to stand for the national anthem before games rather than kneel in protest at police brutality.

‘We believe in honoring the American flag and supporting all of those whose sacrifices protect the many freedoms with have in this country, including the right to have differences of opinion,’ the Kansas City CEO said in a statement just months before the Eagles snubbed their White House invitation.

Trump’s sour history with Philadelphia means there is little to no chance he will be wishing them well when they take on the back-to-back Super Bowl champions this Sunday.

While he does have a lot of bad blood with the queen of Chiefs Kingdom, the Republican leader is a big fan of her BFF Brittany Mahomes, the wife of Kansas City quarterback Patrick who controversially appeared to endorse his policies before November’s election despite her friendship with Swift.

Trump also praised Brittany Mahomes, wife of Chiefs QB Patrick, for endorsing him in the past

‘I actually like Mrs. Mahomes much better [than Swift], if you want to know the truth. She’s a big Trump fan,’ Trump said. ‘I like Brittany. I think Brittany’s great.’

And if there was any doubt as to which way he will be leaning in New Orleans, Trump only sent a congratulatory message to one team after they reached the Super Bowl last month.

‘Congratulations to the Kansas City Chiefs,’ he wrote on Truth Social.

‘What a GREAT Team, Coach, Quarterback, and virtually everything else, including those fantastic FANS, that voted for me (MAGA!) in record numbers.’
