Fired Boston radio host trolls Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce over ref drama

This former Boston radio host didn’t make too many friends at Super Bowl 2025 media day.

Rich Shertenlieb, who previously had radio shows on 98.5 The Sports Hub and 100.7 WXLZ, showed up at Super Bowl media day in New Orleans to troll Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce over alleged pro-Chiefs bias from the referees.

“Patrick, for your whole career you have had so many great people help you win. So, who is your favorite ref?” Shertenlieb asked Mahomes.

Mahomes attempted to answer the trolling question genuinely.

“That’s hilarious,” Mahomes replied. “All the refs are great, man. All the refs are great. They do the best they can. We go out there and play the game the right way.”

The question was followed up by another jock from Shertenlieb.

“Is there one you give a Christmas card to possibly?” he asked.

“Not that I can remember,” Mahomes said. “I’ll have to ask my teammates to try and figure it out.”

Shertenlieb then targeted Kelce for his next round of questioning.

“Travis, what do you love more? Taylor Swift or phantom 15-yard roughing the pᴀsser penalties in the playoffs?” asked Shertenlieb.

“That’s a good question. Anybody else?” Kelce replied denying the questions.

The Chiefs’ favorable whistle in the playoffs has resulted in tons of questions to start Super Bowl week, with even NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell being responding to allegations of a conspiracy theory that the NFL is directing officials to keep Kansas City’s dynasty going.

Shertenlieb is obviously trying to keep the jokes going, although his departure from the Toucher & Rich Show after nearly two decades in Boston is still fresh.

He did not return after a successful run with co-host Fred Toucher, and moved to 100.7, where he had a short-lived run with the iHeart Radio station that underwent mᴀss layoffs not long after picking up his show.

“Earlier this year, Rich said some stuff on and off the air I didn’t like, so I texted him some things that I had been holding onto from the course of our relationship that he did not like,” Toucher said in November. “His agent told my agent, maybe it’s better if the guys negotiated separately.”
