NFL commissioner Roger Goodell delivers Tom Brady verdict amid Fox-Raiders conflict controversy

Amid Tom Brady’s conflicting endeavors as an NFL analyst for FOX and minority owner of the Raiders, commissioner Roger Goodell reᴀssured that the former quarterback is not crossing any lines while juggling his two roles.

During the Super Bowl press conference on Monday, Goodell was asked why the NFL allowed Brady to hold ‘dual roles’. Furthermore, the reporter asked if there was any concern about Brady gaining an unfair advantage.

In response, Goodell highlighted how the seven-time Super Bowl champion ‘calls frequently’ to ensure things are going well.

‘Well, I’m not sure how he would [gain an unfair advantage] in that case, but let me start with the fact that everybody in the National Football League, owner to personnel, is still subject to tampering rules and other policy,’ Goodell said.

‘They’re responsible for that conduct and they’re all held accountable for that,’ he continued.

In Brady’s case, Goodell added, there were ‘special rules’ made to ease ownership’s concerns. He also added how the league will consider whether it needs to add or subtract to those rules in any way.

‘Tom has been incredibly cooperative,’ the commissioner continued. ‘He calls frequently about it and says, ‘Am I doing ok?’ And I think he’s serious about making sure that he separates these two and he doesn’t put the league or anyone in a position of conflict.’

Brady’s minority stake in the franchise was approved by NFL owners in the fall of 2024.

The bid was green-lighted, understanding that Brady can’t attend in-person or online broadcast production meetings and can not gain access to team facilities, coaches, or players, while on the clock for FOX.

Other staff for the network are not subject to these guidelines.

Brady is also required to follow the league consтιтution and bylaws that “prohibit public criticism of officials and other clubs but is allowed to broadcast Raiders games,” per the NFL.

Amid the controversy, Brady was said to be heavily involved in the Raiders’ recent hiring of Pete Carroll as head coach. Las Vegas also hired John Spytek as their general manager as they look to rebuild from a 4-13 season.
