Kellen Moore emerges as front-runner to fill Saints’ vacant head coaching position

It appears that Kellen Moore taking over as the new Saints’ head coach is becoming a likely outcome.

Moore, the Eagles offensive coordinator, is set to meet with the Saints again after the Super Bowl, following a strong interview on Monday, per NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.

Pelissero also reported that Moore has already been working on filling out his future staff for the Saints.

Per NFL rules, Moore and the Saints are not allowed to speak again until the conclusion of the Super Bowl on Feb. 9, as he is still a member of the Eagles’ coaching staff.

Moore, 36, is in his first season as the Eagles offensive coordinator.

He holds seven years of coaching experience at the NFL level.

Prior to joining the Eagles, Moore was the offensive coordinator for the Chargers in 2023, along with being a part of the Cowboys staff for five seasons (four as offensive coordinator and one as quarterbacks coach).

Moore also had a short stint as an NFL quarterback, primarily as a backup and a practice squad member for the Lions and Cowboys.

Moore is one of three candidates known to have interviewed multiple times with New Orleans this offseason, with Giants offensive coordinator Mike Kafka and Dolphins defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver being the others.

Other contenders included the Saints 2024 interim head coach Darren Rizzi, Commanders offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury and former Stanford head coach David Shaw.

Kingsbury, however, removed himself from consideration.

Former Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn also took part in the interview process before being hired by the Jets to fill their head coaching vacancy.

The remaining candidates were reportedly told by the Saints on Friday that the team plans to move in a different direction, per The Athletic.
