Cowboys hire Klayton Adams as offensive coordinator amid coaching shake-up

The Cowboys have their offensive coordinator.

Dallas hired Klayton Adams for the position on Friday, filling yet another coaching vacancy behind new head coach Brian ScH๏τtenheimer, according to a press release from the team.

Adams heads to Texas after spending the past two seasons as the Cardinals’ offensive line coach.

Before coaching in Arizona, Adams spent four seasons as an offensive ᴀssistant with the Colts.

The Cowboys also considered Browns offensive coordinator Ken Dorsey, Falcons тιԍнт ends coach Kevin Koger and Lions running backs coach Scottie Montgomery for the job before hiring Adams.

Adams takes the job left by ScH๏τtenheimer’s promotion after he was elevated to the head coaching position following two seasons as the team’s OC.

The pair will be tasked with improving a Cowboys offense that struggled in 2024 with the sixth-fewest yards per play (5.0) in the NFL.

Adams will look to bring the same success he helped build with the Cardinals, who ranked sixth in the league in yards per play (5.9) and were especially strong running the ball with 5.3 yards per attempt, the second-most behind the Ravens.

Dallas finished 7-10 in 2024, sitting outside the postseason picture for the first time in three seasons.

Owner Jerry Jones kicked off a new era on the sidelines earlier this month, parting ways with head coach Mike McCarthy, who had led the way the past five seasons.

Adams will be leaning on quarterback Dak Prescott, who missed the last eight games of the season after undergoing hamstring surgery, in his new role.
