Raiders icon and Super Bowl champion Marcus Allen has laid out what Tom Brady must do next in his bid to turn around the fortunes of his struggling franchise.
Las Vegas went 4-13 in 2024 but new co-owner Brady is already making moves, bringing in veteran Pete Carroll as head coach for next season.
There is still plenty of work to do to return the historic Raiders franchise to what it once was, when Allen was MVP and the team last won the Super Bowl back in 1984.
Now, speaking exclusively to Mail Sport in Orlando, Allen has revealed the next big task on Brady’s hands as attention turns to 2025.
‘Pete [Carroll] is a great coach. I mean, just has a ton of enthusiasm, a great football mind,’ Allen said at Hilton Grand Vacations’ Tournament of Champions in Florida.
‘Their biggest challenge is building a roster, getting people in there that can fit his vision. Right now, you look at the roster, they need improvements in a lot of different areas.

Tom Brady is already making waves as minority owner of the Las Vegas Raiders
‘So that’s gonna be key. Free agency and retaining certain players, and then drafting well. That’s how you build teams. You can look at Detroit, for example. I mean, they really drafted well over the last five or six years, it’s been fantastic.’
Brady became a minority stakeholder of the Raiders back in October, but has had a huge role to play in the behind-the-scenes decision-making, alongside long-time owner Mark Davis.
In the seven-time Super Bowl champion, Allen believes his old team is in safe hands.

‘He has a great football mind, he really does,’ Allen adds. ‘It comes across on TV, but you can obviously tell with how he played the game. He played chess when everybody else was playing checkers, you know?
‘Great move with the head coach, and we’ll see with the selection of the GM and how well that goes. That’s going to be key: building, bringing in brave players, the roster needs to get better. This is going to be a big year.
‘Can we get another Brock Bowers in? Can we get some other players in the second and third round that are really good players and five, six years down the road they’re the nucleus of your team? That’s what’s really important, and that’s where the GM comes in.’
