Kansas City Chiefs abolish huge part of Super Bowl celebration plans after mᴀss shooting at last year's parade

There will reportedly be no public rally if the Chiefs win a third-straight Super Bowl, following last year’s tragic mᴀss shooting.

Travis Kelce, Patrick Mahomes and Co are chasing a historic three-peat when they take on the Philadelphia Eagles in New Orleans next week.

It is tradition for the winners to hold a homecoming event to celebrate with their supporters but, according to FOX4, the Chiefs have decided to scale back any events this year.

The news comes after the tragedy of 12 months ago, when a dispute led to a shooting that killed one person, left dozens injured and forced hundreds of others to scramble for safety.

The incident took place outside Kansas City’s historic Union Station after Andy Reid’s side had returned from Las Vegas following victory over the San Francisco 49ers.

Kelce and Co were greeted by 1million fans as they drove through the city and went up on stage outside Union Station.

The team sang and showed off the Vince Lombardi Trophy in front of a huge crowd before mayhem broke out. And this year, it’s claimed that the Chiefs would instead hold a private rally.

According to FOX4, an exclusive gathering would be held at Arrowhead Stadium for players, their families, the Missouri governor Mike Kehoe and city mayor Quinton Lucas.

The players would then head out for a parade but the route has been designed ‘to minimize crowd density’.

Last year, running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire was given a national heroism award after a Kansas City mother revealed how he kept her son safe during the shooting.

Head coach Reid was also praised after comforting a teenager during the aftermath of the tragedy.
