Dalton Kincaid’s brutal drop sealed Bills’ crushing AFC Championship loss

Dalton Kincaid nearly had a catch that could have saved the Bills’ season.

Instead, Josh Allen’s last-ditch pᴀss, while under heavy pressure, went through Kincaid’s hands and fell to the ground in heartbreaking fashion late in the fourth quarter of the Bills’ clash against the Chiefs in the AFC championship game at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium on Sunday.

The Chiefs ended up winning the game, 32-29, to punch their ticket to Super Bowl 2025 next month in New Orleans.

Kincaid was open and the pᴀss was lofted within his reach, but the Bills тιԍнт end appeared to have misjudged where the ball was going and had to make a diving effort to try and make the catch, to no avail.

Facing fourth-and-5, the catch would have been well beyond what the Bills needed for the first down and would have brought Buffalo close to field goal range.

“We had a chance with the ball in our hands, in Josh’s hands, to win it and we came up a little bit short right there,” Bills coach Sean McDermott told reporters after the game. “I thought we had a chance to catch the ball, but at the end of the day, I’m extremely proud (of) this football team.”

The wild closing moments of the game only punctuated the Bills’ devastation, as Sunday’s loss marked the fourth time in the last five years they’ve lost to the Chiefs in the playoffs.

Though there were still nearly two minutes left on the clock, Bills players’ facial expressions seemed to suggest they knew the game was all but over.

Allen had a heartbroken look on his face as he walked off the field and Bills offensive lineman Dion Dawkins and Chiefs defensive tackle Chris Jones were seen embracing, customarily seen after the game was over.

The Chiefs have been the Bills’ white whale of sorts in recent history, with Sunday marking the second time the teams have met in the AFC championship game.

The Chiefs will face the Eagles in a rematch of the Super Bowl from two years ago.

Super Bowl 2025 will take place on Feb. 9 in New Orleans.
