Commanders kicker Zane Gonzalez abused by Philadelphia fans after going viral for his OCD diagnosis

Commanders kicker Zane Gonzalez abused by Philadelphia fans after going viral for his OCD diagnosis

Washington kicker Zane Gonzalez was mocked by Eagles supporters over his OCD ahead of Sunday’s NFC Championship game in Philadelphia.

The Commanders travelled to Lincoln Financial Field knowing victory would secure them a spot in the Super Bowl next month.

Before the game, a clip appeared on social media showing Gonzalez going through warm ups near the stands.

In the video, two Eagles fans come into view and begin shouting abuse towards Gonzalez, who recently went viral.

Before kicking the winning field goal against the Buccaneers earlier in the playoffs, Gonzalez adjusted his socks on the sideline and fixed his hair multiple times before putting his helmet on.

All of it stems from obsessive-compulsive disorder, which has affected Gonzalez his entire life.

I kept wondering why Zane Gonzalez looked so anxious taking the field before the game-winning kick. Seconds earlier, he was on the sideline scrambling to change his shoe. It got it done but lord I was sweatttinn #CommandersvsBuccaneers #HTTC #CommandersVsBucs #commanders pic.twitter.com/9Inm0yHCCK

On Sunday in Philadelphia, one of the fans appeared to taunt the kicker over his condition, mimicking Gonzalez and shouting: ‘Fix your hair buddy!’

The fans also shouted ‘four missed kicks today!’ at Gonzalez as he went through his final preparations for the game.

‘You’re lucky you won the last game!’ one screamed. ‘Bye bye!’ shouted the other.

Gonzalez, who ignored the abuse, made all of his first three field goals as the Commanders attempted to come from behind against Philadelphia.

‘It’s who I am, and it’s what I go through, and I, above everybody else, realize how crazy it looks doing it. I’m aware. But at the same time, you can’t help it,’ he said recently.

It is the latest controversy involving Eagles fans and comes weeks after Ryan Caldwell was filmed abusing a female Packers fan in another video that went viral.

He called her a ‘ugly, dumb c***’, lost his job and has been banned from coming back to Lincoln Financial Field.
