After flubbing the name of the biggest sports team in her own city, Philadelphia mayor Cherelle Parker was able to earn herself some redemption during a pep rally for the Eagles on Friday.
Parker went viral for her poor attempt to spell the team’s name – as she ended up spelling the word ‘Eagles’ as ‘E-L-G-S-E-S’.
She redeemed herself at an outdoor rally for Eagles fans held at LOVE Park in downtown Philadelphia before the team hosts the Washington Commanders in the NFC Championship game on Sunday.
‘Now listen! Your mayor done went out there and got in trouble, y’all,’ Parker joked to the crowd.
‘I done went out there and we went viral,’ the mayor added, receiving laughs and applause from the crowd.
‘Just for the record, on today, we have to show the nation that your mayor’s a good student. So Philly, are you ready to teach your mayor?’

Fans cheered and then loudly – and correctly – responded with the proper spelling.
After the rally, Parker spoke to NBC 10 Philadelphia and joked about her brief viral moment.
‘I’ll tell you this: if they didn’t know who the mayor of Philadelphia was, they sure know now!’ she joked with a reporter. ‘And we gon’ do everything that we possibly can to make sure we cheer our birds on to victory.’
Fans in Philadelphia are embracing their own mayor’s gaffe. As NBC 10 reported, T-shirts with the misspelling have been made for fans to purchase.
The Eagles have the task of taking down their NFC East rivals in order to seal a fifth trip to the Super Bowl in franchise history.
Currently, the team is just 1-3 in the Big Game across their history. Their lone win came in Super Bowl LII over the New England Patriots.
