Philadelphia mayor Cherelle Parker gets 'Eagles' spelling horribly wrong while trying to start NFL chant

Philadelphia mayor Cherelle Parker is throwing her full support behind the Eagles this week – just don’t ask her to spell it.

The Eagles are now one win away from reaching this year’s Super Bowl, with the Washington Commanders to come in the NFC Championship game on Sunday.

It has been a season to remember so far for Nick Sirianni’s team, who got past the Los Angeles Rams in the Divisional round at the weekend.

Before that victory at Lincoln Financial Field, Parker was seen trying to get Philly fans pumped for the game by starting off their famous E-A-G-L-E-S chant.

The only problem was, however, she got the spelling horribly wrong.

‘Let me hear you all sing,’ the Philly mayor, wearing a kelly green beanie and scarf, said during an outdoor news conference before shouting, ‘E-L-G-S-E-S! Let’s go birds!’

Footage of Parker’s embarrᴀssing blunder only surfaced on social media Tuesday, with fans left in disbelief.

One simply posted on X: ‘Oh my.’

Another said: ‘This cannot be real?????’

‘That [spelling Eagles] should probably be a requirement to be mayor,’ a third wrote.

‘Getting second hand embarᴀssment,’ a fourth commented.

While one concluded: ‘Time for a new Mayor.’

A few days on from her cringeworthy moment, Parker was able to make light of it during an unrelated event in Kensington.

‘We don’t promise perfection, I’m so happy that I never have, especially after I couldn’t spell Eagles right,’ she joked.

The Eagles host the Commanders in the NFC Championship game at 3pm ET this Sunday, with the winner set to face either the Kansas City Chiefs or the Buffalo Bills in next month’s Super Bowl.
