Patriots owner Robert Kraft’s son ‘plans to run for mayor of Boston’

Patriots owner Robert Kraft's son 'plans to run for mayor of Boston'

The Kraft Group’s empire could soon extend from the New England Patriots in Foxborough, Mᴀssachusetts to Boston’s City Hall.

Josh Kraft, the 57-year-old son of Patriots owner Robert, intends to run for mayor against Boston incumbent Michelle Wu, according to several reports. DailyMail.com has reached out to Patriots spokespeople for confirmation.

Josh currently works as the President of the New England Patriots Foundation, which is responsible for a number of philanthropic endeavors involving everything from health and education to social justice and family initiatives.

Like his father, an outspoken liberal who maintains a friendship with conservative President Donald Trump, Josh is a registered Democrat. Not only has he voted in recent Democrat primaries, according to The Boston Globe, but he also attended a fund raiser in Boston for Vice Presidential candidate and Democratic Minnesota Governor Tim Walz.

The Kraft Group consists of Robert as well as Josh’s brothers, Jonathan and Daniel. The company has interests in paper and packaging manufacturing, construction, real estate, private equity and venture investing, as well as sustainability and, of course, sports. The Krafts not only own the Patriots, but the MLS’ New England Revolution as well.

Josh has worked extensively in Boston, spending 30 years with the local chapters of the Boys & Girls Clubs, including 12 years as the organization’s president. He’s credited with doubling the Boys & Girls Clubs of Boston’s budge to $26 million over that time.

Furthermore, Josh serves on the boards of a local of number organizations, such as Brandeis University, Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Herren Project. He’s also the co-chair of the Hate Crimes Task Force for Mᴀssachusetts.

His candidacy comes at a time when the Kraft Group is pushing to build a soccer stadium in the Boston suburb of Everett to house the Revolution.

While Everett Mayor Carlo DeMaria and other local officials have backed the proposal, Wu has expressed concerns the stadium could lead to traffic issues for the Boston neighborhood of Charlestown.

The project has an estimated cost of $500 million, and would offer soccer fans a much closer viewing experience than they currently get at Gillette Stadium – the arena the Revolution has shared with the Patriots since 1996.

Raised in the wealthy Boston suburb of Newton, Josh got his bachelor’s degree from prestigious Williams College in western Mᴀssachusetts and a master’s in education from Harvard’s graduate school.

Another Harvard grad, Wu was elected in 2021 as she defeated fellow Democrat Annissa Essaibi George. Her predecessor, Marty Walsh, left Boston’s City Hall to be Joe Biden’s labor secretary. He now works as the head of the National Hockey League Players’ ᴀssociation (NHLPA).
