Xerxes I, called Xerxes the Great was king of Persia from 486 to 465 BC and he was the fifth ruler of the Achaemenid dynasty. Like his father and predecessor Darius I reigned during the heyday of the Achaemenid Empire.

Xerxes was ᴀssᴀssinated by Artabanus, the commander of the royal bodyguard.
His tomb, entirely excavated in the rock, is one of the 4 rock royal tombs found in Naqsh-e Rustam, an archaeological site located about 12 km north-west of Persepolis.
