New England Patriots re-hire famed coach who helped franchise win six Super Bowl rings

The Patriots are reuniting with a coach who led them to six Super Bowls.

Earlier this month, the franchise hired Mike Vrabel as its head coach following the departure of Jerod Mayo.

And the former New England linebacker and тιтans head coach has now added Josh McDaniels to his staff as offensive coordinator, according to several reports on Tuesday.

This will be McDaniels’ third stint in the role with New England as he was previously the offensive coordinator from 2006-08 and reprised the job from 2012 to 2022 after briefly serving as the head coach of the Broncos.

McDaniels tried his hand at head coaching a second time with the Raiders from 2022-23, but was fired in the middle of his second season in charge.

Through parts of four seasons, McDaniels compiled a head coaching record of 20-33 in Denver and Las Vegas.

Nonetheless, McDaniels had mᴀssive success with Tom Brady under center as New England formed a dynasty.

The now-48 year old also fared well after Brady departed, as the team thrived with quarterback Mac Jones in the 2021 season.

That year, the team was sixth in scoring as the rookie Jones – who was a backup for Jacksonville this past season – led the team.

New England will hope that McDaniels aids the progression of quarterback Drake Maye, who showed flashes of his talent in his 12 starts this year.

The UNC product, who was selected No. 3 overall in last year’s NFL Draft, tossed 15 touchdowns and 2,276 yards against 10 interceptions.

Nonetheless, the Patriots went 4-13 and will select No. 4 overall in this year’s draft.
