Matthew Stafford’s wife Kelly ponders ‘if this is the end’ for Rams QB amid retirement chatter

Kelly Stafford “could never” tire of watching husband Matthew Stafford light it up on NFL game days.

But with the sun officially setting on his 16th season in the league following the Rams’ divisional round playoff loss to the Eagles on Sunday, the mother of four wonders — much like the rest of the NFL community — what’s next for the Super Bowl-winning quarterback.

“Aren’t enough words to express how proud I am,” Kelly began Monday on Instagram, one day after the 28-22 defeat.

“I joke about us being old and tired but honestly I could never get tired of watching you out there or watching our girls cheer for their daddy. I’m wondering if this is the end or not… guess we will find out.”

Kelly, who has been married to Stafford, 36, since 2015, accompanied her post with a handful of pH๏τos from Sunday’s game, which featured the couple’s daughters, twins Chandler and Sawyer, Hunter and Tyler, cheering on the sideline at Lincoln Financial Field.

Stafford completed 26 of 44 pᴀsses for 324 yards and two touchdowns on a snowy Sunday in Philadelphia, where he was sacked five times.

The 2009 No. 1 overall pick was asked about his future following the season-ending loss and told reporters, “I’ll take some time to think about it.”

“But I feel like I was playing some pretty good ball,” he said.

This season marked Stafford’s fourth year in Los Angeles.

Stafford was traded to the Rams from the Lions in January 2021 in what was a franchise-altering move for both teams, with Detroit landing quarterback Jared Goff in the swap.

The Rams went on to win the Super Bowl in Stafford’s first season out West.

He’s made the playoffs in three of the last four years with the Rams.

Meanwhile, Detroit has continued to ascend following Goff’s arrival, with the Lions clinching the NFC’s top seed in this year’s playoff race.

But just like the Rams, the Lions’ Super Bowl dreams were derailed this weekend, too, when the sixth-seeded Commanders upset them at home, 45-31.

Stafford still has two years remaining on his contract.
