Saquon Barkley has revealed how he flirted with disaster before scoring the game-winning touchdown that took the Eagles to within one step of the Super Bowl.
The running back scored twice to lead Philadelphia to the NFC Championship game, where they will play the Washington Commanders for a spot in New Orleans next month.
Barkley was serenaded with chants of ‘M-V-P’ by the crowd at Lincoln Financial Field after his 78-yard score put the Eagles out of reach.
But shortly before the play, the running back was spotted in conversation with quarterback Jalen Hurts.
And after the game, Barkley revealed that he needed a last-minute check to avoid a disaster.
‘I think I was on the wrong side, but we don’t got to have that as part of the story,’ Barkley joked in the locker room. ‘It worked out pretty well, though.’

Barkley and Jalen Hurts combined to book the Eagles’ place in the NFC Championship game
He explained: ‘That was the conversation that we’re having having back there… we checked it, and I was like: “Am I supposed to switch?”
‘He was like, “No…” I can’t say what he said because it gives away the play. (But) I was wasn’t quite sure. And it just worked.’
Barkley raced clear and slid in the snow after scoring his second touchdown of the game. In the first half, he scored from 62 yards.
The running back ended with 205 rushing yards as the Eagles and Rams battled brutal conditions on Sunday.
Hurts also scored a big running touchdown as the Eagles secured a 28-22 victory that means they will host the Commanders in Philadelphia next week.
