Former NFL coach Jack Del Rio resurfaces with French team after drunk driving arrest

Jack Del Rio is France-bound.

The former NFL coach, last seen resigning from his role as an advisor on the Univserity of Wisconsin staff following a November drunk driving arrest, was named head coach of the Paris Musketeers of the European League of Football.

“I’m looking forward to working with this group of men,” the 61-year-old said in a statement. “We will teach, develop and compete.”

Del Rio became the subject of stateside headlines with his November arrest, in which he allegedly struck a street sign and then a residential fence with his vehicle in Madison, Wisc.

He pleaded with officers to let him “just take a leak man?” from the back of the cop car, adding, “Look at me. What the f–k?”

It’s the latest stop on Del Rio’s 35-year coaching odyssey, which includes stints as head coach of the NFL’s Jaguars and Raiders.

His most recent NFL job came as the defensive coordinator for the Commanders from 2020-23.

Now, he becomes the second head coach in Musketeers history after Marc Mattioli pioneered a 16-8 record over the franchise’s first two seasons before leaving the team to “follow personal and professional goals in the USA.”

“We are incredibly excited to welcome Coach Del Rio to Paris,” Paris Musketeers CEO John McKeon said in a release. “His commitment to excellence and his pᴀssion for teaching the game will build upon the tone and culture that was set by our first coach, Marc Mattioli. We couldn’t be more excited to welcome him to the Musketeers family and continue building our winning tradition.”

Del Rio won’t get to ease into his new gig, with Paris set to open the EFL’s fifth season on May 17 against the defending champion Rhein Fire.
