Cowboys request head coaching interview with H๏τsH๏τ young coordinator after Deion Sanders inquiry

After making the decision to move on from head coach Mike McCarthy, the Dallas Cowboys are requesting to interview a rising star in the coaching world who currently works for a hated division rival.

Dallas has officially requested to interview with Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator Kellen Moore.

Moore is considered to be one of the top coordinator coaching prospects on the market and has already set up interviews for the vacancies with the Jacksonville Jaguars and the New Orleans Saints.

Despite his current position with the division rival Eagles, Moore is well acquainted with the Cowboys after years of playing and coaching in Dallas.

Moore was a backup quarterback for the Cowboys for three seasons before transitioning into the coaching ranks.

He got his coaching career started in Dallas – first as the team’s quarterbacks coach and then the offensive coordinator from 2018-2022. Moore left Dallas after mutually agreeing to part ways with the team.

From there, he joined the staff with the Los Angeles Chargers before moving to Philadelphia.

For some Cowboys fans, this mirrors the same process as another former Dallas head coach, Jason Garrett. Garrett spent a good chunk of his playing career in Dallas from 1992-1999.

After retiring in 2004, Garrett spent two years as a QB coach in Miami before jumping to Dallas in 2007 and staying there in multiple roles for 12 years. Most notably, he was the head coach of the Cowboys from 2011-2019.

Moore was the offensive coordinator under McCarthy for multiple seasons in which his offenses ranked in the top-ten league wide in four of his five seasons with the Cowboys.

The one exception came in the 2020 season, when starting QB Dak Prescott only played five games.

Some believe that he could be the ideal candidate for owner Jerry Jones considering he’s very familiar with Moore throughout the years.

The interview with Moore comes after Dallas has been linked to University of Colorado head football coach Deion Sanders, another former Cowboys player.

Jones and Sanders have reportedly spoken about the vacancy and some reports have tapped ‘Coach Prime’ as the top candidate for the position.

But more on Moore: the Washington native was a sought after recruit in high school and played college football at Boise State.

Throughout his time as a starter, Moore was widely regarded as one of the best quarterbacks in college football. In his redshirt sophomore, redshirt junior, and redshirt senior seasons, Moore finished in the top-ten of Heisman voting (seventh, fourth, and eighth respectively).

In spite of this, he went undrafted in the 2012 NFL Draft as scouts doubted multiple characteristics in his arsenal.

He signed with the Lions after the draft and remained there for three seasons before being picked up by the Cowboys in 2015.

Moore stuck with Dallas until 2017 and retired from the NFL in 2018. He was the last left-handed quarterback to take snaps in the league until the arrival of Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa in 2020.

Moore’s all-time NFL statline is three games played and two games started – with a record of 0-2. He completed 61 of 104 pᴀsses for 779 yards, four touchdowns, and six interceptions.
