Jim Harbaugh to undergo critical medical procedures after season ends in defeat

After being eliminated from the playoffs, Los Angeles Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh will be undergoing some medical procedures in order to address his health.

Per Kris Rhim of ESPN, Harbaugh will be receiving a cardiac ablation and will get hip replacement surgery.

A cardiac ablation is a minimally invasive procedure that is intended to stop or prevent cardiac arrhythmias – or irregular heartbeats.

Earlier this season, Harbaugh had to leave his team’s Week 6 game against the Denver Broncos due to an atrial flutter – or an abnormality in the heart beat.

Harbaugh was treated in the locker room by paramedics and he later returned to the sideline to coach the rest of the game.

He went to a cardiologist in October and was medicated, then put on a heart monitor for two weeks.

Harbaugh had previously experienced episodes of arrhythmia and had a heart procedure back in 2012, when he was the head coach of the San Francisco 49ers.

As for the hip replacement, Harbaugh has been patrolling the sidelines with a noticeable limp recently – which he hopes to address through surgery.

Harbaugh just wrapped up his first season back in the NFL since 2015 – when he left the 49ers for his alma mater, the University of Michigan.

After a season of scandal which ended in Michigan winning the 2023 national championship, Harbaugh left for the Chargers in the winter of 2024.

In his first season back in pro football, Harbaugh took a Chargers team that went 5-12 the prior campaign to an 11-6 record and an AFC Wild Card berth.

The Chargers fell to the Houston Texans 32-12 on the road on a day where LA quarterback Justin Herbert tossed four interceptions.
