Deion Sanders, Jerry Jones have already talked Cowboys coaching job: ‘Some interest’

Coach Prime may be returning to Dallas.

At least, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones appears to be trying to get Deion Sanders to come home, according to multiple reports.

Fox Sports’ Jordan Schultz was the first to report the development.

According to the NFL insider, Jones has spoken to the Cowboys legend and current head coach of the Colorado Buffaloes about the coaching vacancy that now exists in Dallas.

The talks are expected to continue and Sanders is believed to be the “top candidate” for the Cowboys job, though Schultz reported that the organization will speak with other candidates about the job as well.

The Cowboys confirmed on Monday that Mike McCarthy would not be back next season after coaching the team for the past five seasons and leading them to three postseason appearances.

Jones said in a statement that the Cowboys would “commence a search process immediately to hire the next head coach.”

Sanders had finished his second season as the head coach at the University of Colorado and led the program to a 9-4 record and a 7-2 mark in the program’s first year back in the Big 12.

The legendary corner has had the chance to coach his son, and Buffaloes’ star quarterback, Shedeur Sanders the past two seasons in Colorado.

The Cowboys’ gig isn’t the first one that Sanders has been linked to since the NFL regular season came to an end earlier this month.

Sanders had been linked to the Raiders opening and expressed “strong interest” in the job.

The Raiders could make a move to draft Shedeur in April’s NFL draft as well.

Sanders spent five years with the Cowboys and was a part of the Super Bowl-winning Cowboys team in Super Bowl XXX in 1995.

Former Cowboys star Dez Bryant chimed in on social media after news broke about Sanders and appeared to endorse Sanders for the job.

“I hope @DeionSanders get the cowboys coaching Job!” he wrote.
