Mike McCarthy out as Cowboys coach after contract talks break down

It’s over between Mike McCarthy and the Cowboys.

The two sides were unable to reach an agreement on a long-term contract and he will pursue other positions, according to NFL Network.

The Bears and Saints had interest in interviewing McCarthy, but were initially rebuffed by Dallas when McCarthy was still under contract next week.

McCarthy went 49-35 in five seasons with the Cowboys. The team went 12-5 in each of the previous three seasons, but failed to advance past the Divisional Round.

This year Dallas was riddled with injuries, including to quarterback Dak Prescott, and went 7-10.
