Tom Brady mercilessly trolled by NFL fans for on-air mistake as they call for him to be replaced: 'Wrong sport'

It hasn’t been the easiest transition from the field to the broadcast booth for the greatest football player in history. For Tom Brady, the flubs and stumbles continued in his first ever playoff game.

Brady, who is set to be the color commentator alongside play-by-play man Kevin Burkhardt for Super Bowl LIX, was roasted over the coals of the internet for a mistake that he made during the NFC Wild Card game between the Philadelphia Eagles and the Green Bay Packers on Sunday.

With time winding down on the first half of the game – and the Eagles up 10-0 – Brady decided to praise a play call from Philadelphia.

Unfortunately for him, he had a bit of a slip of the tongue and said the name of the baseball team from the City of Brotherly Love, rather than the football team.

‘[You have] three timeouts, so you’d have a couple plays. But I like this call by the Phillies… excuse me, by Philly,’ Brady said on the air.

Brady also mixed up the name of Packers running back Josh Jacobs – calling him Brandon Jacobs instead.

Brandon Jacobs is a retired NFL halfback, who was best known for winning two Super Bowls with the New York Giants – beating Brady both times.

Fans on social media eviscerated Brady, saying that he and Burkhardt should be replaced by the ‘No. 2’ Fox broadcast team of Joe Davis and Greg Olsen.

The ‘No. 2’ team of Davis/Olsen was voted the Best NFL Broadcast Team of 2024 in a poll of over 2,400 fans conducted by sports media site Awful Announcing. Burkhardt/Brady came 14th out of 25 broadcast teams.

‘Maybe Brady’s not cut out for broadcasting,’ wrote one user on X, formerly Twitter.

Another user said, ‘Football player – goat. Announcer – awful!’

‘They’re giving this man the GDP of Lithuania to do this,’ joked another user.

Plenty of commenters called for Olsen to be brought back onto Fox’s No. 1 team. Brady took Olsen’s spot when he began broadcasting this year.

‘He’s is absolutely atrocious on the microphone! Get this a**hole out of her and bring me back Greg Olsen!,’ read one user’s comment.

Another user said, ‘Can’t wait for Greg Olsen to be back on the A team next year!’

One user posted, ‘We want Greg Olsen back,’ while another said, ‘Just get rid of him already. @gregolsen88 (100 percent) better.’

Since his rough debut in Week 1 of the NFL season, the booth of Burkhardt and Brady has been the most discussed commentary pairing in sports.

Brady has been targeted because of his occasional awkward moments and mistakes. Fans often point to the mᴀssive ten-year, $375million contract that Fox gave him before they even heard him do color commentary.

Earlier this season, after Brady’s minority ownership stake in the Las Vegas Raiders was approved, the NFL pᴀssed a series of rules that the 47-year-old would have to follow in order to keep things fair for other teams.

That includes Brady being prohibited from accessing the facilities of other teams, watching practices, and attending production meetings virtually or in person. He is also not allowed to criticize game officials or other clubs.

All of these rules would either hamper his preparedness as a broadcaster or limit what speech he could or couldn’t use on the air.
