Deion Sanders has ‘very strong interest’ in Raiders job as NFL whispers grow louder

Deion Sanders might be looking to jump to the NFL.

The Colorado Buffaloes head coach has “very strong interest” in the Raiders’ sideline opening, the Las Vegas Review-Journal reported Saturday.

Las Vegas is in the process of finding a replacement for Antonio Pierce, who was fired from the job earlier this week.

The franchise has requested interviews with at least a half-dozen candidates, including former Jets head coach Robert Saleh, Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson and former Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll.

Earlier this week, Sanders revealed what it would take for him to leave Boulder for an NFL head coaching job.

“The only way I would consider is to coach my sons,” Sanders said on “GMA3” on Wednesday, emphasizing the plural form of “sons.”

Buffaloes quarterback Shedeur Sanders is expected to be one of the top picks in the 2025 NFL Draft, although his brother, Shilo Sanders, a safety, is not high on teams’ draft radars.

Sanders has ushered in a strong turnaround in Colorado since taking over two years ago, taking the Buffaloes from a 1-10 record in 2022 to a 4-8 record in his first year in 2023 to a 9-4 mark this past season.

After going 4-13 in 2024, the Raiders are looking for a new leader on the sidelines as they begin an era that includes Tom Brady as a minority owner.

The future Hall of Fame quarterback will reportedly have “a lot” of influence on who becomes the next Raiders head coach.

The Raiders haven’t won a playoff game since 2003, making the playoffs just twice in 21 years.

During the same “GMA3” appearance, Sanders expressed his love for the university despite NFL rumors surrounding the football legend.

“I love Colorado. Now, I love my Buffaloes. I love everything that we’re building,” he said. “I love everything that we’re doing and I love Boulder, Colorado. I do.”
