Murud Janjira Fort: Maharashtra’s formidable island fortress

Murud Janjira Fort’s most prominent feature is its robust fortification. When we take the fort’s structure and location into consideration, it sure looks like something that’s quite impenetrable. And it was just that. The fort has never been conquered by outside forces. It changed hands only after it was handed over to the Indian government post independence from British rule in 1947. The fort is built on an oval-shaped rock and is spread across an area of approximately 22 acres.
