Watch as Dolphins teammates learned Tyreek Hill pulled himself out of Jets game

Tyreek Hill quit on the Dolphins during the third quarter of their loss to the Jets on Sunday, leaving his Miami teammates stunned.

The exact moment that Hill tapped out was captured on camera during a Jets’ challenge in the third quarter.

Dolphins star receiver Jaylen Waddle put his hands up in confusion, with the audio picking up him addressing Hill by his nickname: “Hey, Cheetah. You done?”

Fellow receivers River Cracraft and Malik Washington also seemingly learned that Hill was indeed done for the day during that squence.

During the drive, quarterback Tyler Huntley connected with Washington for 12 yards, which the Jets unsuccessfully challenged before later ceding a touchdown that cut Gang Green’s lead to 18-13.

After the game, Hill claimed that he was “dealing with a little issue” and that “coach kind of pulled me out” of the game.

However, coach Mike McDaniel said he found out Hill was unavailable right before the drive. His version of events contradicted those of his star receiver’s.

“I was not informed that it was a new injury,” McDaniel said. “And, you know, I think at that point in time, my focus was on the players and I didn’t take the time to go and try to figure out more into that. There was guys on the field that were competing, we were trying to win a game, so my focus was there.”

Some have speculated the Dolphins star receiver was scoreboard watching and noticed that the Broncos were steamrolling the Chiefs’ backups in an eventual 38-0 win, a result that would eliminate Miami from the playoffs regardless of the outcome against the Jets.

Hill was noticeably irritated after the game as he missed the playoffs for the first time in his career and opened the door for his Dolphins exit.

“This is my first time I haven’t been in the playoffs, man. So, I just got to do what’s best for me and my family,” Hill said postgame. “I’m finna open that door for myself. I’m opening the door. I’m out bro. It was great playing here, but at the end of the day, I gotta do what’s best for my career because I’m too much of a compeтιтor to be just out there.”

This isn’t the first time a star receiver quit on his team at MetLife Stadium. Buccaneers receiver Antonio Brown literally his left team and ripped his pads off in a wild scene in January 2022.

That was his final game in the NFL and Hill briefly changed his X profile to a pH๏τo of him imposed over Brown from that fateful day.

Hill and the Dolphins have perhaps since reconciled their differences, at least for now, as he met with general manager Chris Grier and McDaniel and did not request a trade.

McDaniel noted he made it clear to Hill that he won’t accept him exiting games again, should Hill be back for a fourth season in Miami.

“Discussed multiple things, including without wavering, that it’s not acceptable to leave the game and won’t be tolerated in the future and he embraced accountability,” McDaniel said Tuesday.
