Deion Sanders opens door to coaching in NFL and names one opportunity that could lure him away from Colorado

University of Colorado head coach Deion Sanders has been at the center of NFL coaching rumors for months now as multiple teams are now looking for new leaders.

Sanders has been long linked to a possible opening – with six teams currently without head coaches and other vacancies potentially interesting the Hall of Famer.

But speaking to Good Morning America’s ‘GMA3’, Sanders indicated that he’s happy where he’s at right now and only a special opportunity would force him to change his mind.

‘You know what? The only way I would consider [it], is to coach my son-s. Not son, son-s,’ Sanders revealed, referencing quarterback and projected first-round pick Shedeur as well as his Colorado teammate and brother, Buffaloes safety Shilo.

When a GMA anchor pointed out that his answer wasn’t a ‘no’, he continued: ‘I love Colorado. I love my Buffaloes, I love everything that we’re building. I love everything that we’re doing. And I love Boulder, Colorado. I do. Immensely.’

Sanders’ arrival in Colorado came with plenty of attention – and in that process, he brought a number of players with him from Jackson State University where he was previously coaching.

That included Heisman Trophy winner Travis Hunter, but it also included two of his sons.

While Shedeur is expected to be taken within the first five picks of the upcoming draft – if not the first overall pick itself – Shilo isn’t as highly rated and could go undrafted altogether. If he does get drafted, he’s so far projected to get taken in the seventh and final round.

This season, Shilo finished with 67 total tackles, 45 solo tackles, one sack, one forced fumble and no interceptions while only defending two pᴀsses.

As for the coaching vacancies that could be filled by ‘Coach Prime’, there are currently six NFL teams that do not have a head coach: the New York Jets, Chicago Bears, New Orleans Saints, New England Patriots, Jacksonville Jaguars, and Las Vegas Raiders.

Shedeur is projected to go within the top three picks – but none of those teams have head coaching openings.

After going 4-8 in his first season, Deion Sanders went 9-4 and made an appearance at the Alamo Bowl.
