Bill Belichick’s response to claims NFL teams – including Tom Brady’s Las Vegas Raiders – want to hire him

Bill Belichick's response to claims NFL teams - including Tom Brady's Las Vegas Raiders - want to hire him

Bill Belichick reportedly has no plans or desire to return to the NFL.

It emerged on Wednesday that a number of teams had sounded out the 72-year-old about the prospect of hiring him this offseason.

That included Tom Brady’s Las Vegas Raiders, who are one of six teams currently searching for a new head coach.

Belichick, who won six Super Bowls with Brady and the New England Patriots, sensationally made the move into college football last month when he joined UNC.

He has already thrown himself into the college process and started recruiting players and ᴀssembling his staff in Chapel Hill.

And, according to The Athletic’s Dianna Russini, he will not entertain any offers from the NFL ranks in the coming weeks.

She added that Belichick’s ‘sole focus is on coaching and recruiting for North Carolina, as he continues building the Tar Heels’ future.’

Belichick is reportedly in New Jersey on Wednesday trying to recruit.

Las Vegas fired Antonio Pierce on Tuesday after a 4-13 season, with reports stating Brady had already talked to Belichick about the opening.

Belichick’s buyout with the Tar Heels is set at $10million, with it dropping dramatically to $1million in June.

Either way, that amount would be a fraction of what NFL teams are willing to pay to acquire the legendary head coach, per NFL Network.

Brady is a minority owner of the Raiders, with controlling owner Mark Davis set to name the legendary quarterback to his committee to find the team’s next leader.

Six NFL teams currently have head-coaching vacancies in the Raiders, Jaguars, Saints, Bears, Patriots, and Jets.

The Cowboys could soon have an opening as well as Mike McCarthy’s contract expires next week and other teams have sought to interview him to take the helm.

Belichick was the Patriots head coach for 24 years and was fired last January, with Jerod Mayo being named as his successor. Mayo was axed on Sunday.

Belichick failed to land another NFL job in last year’s coaching carousel after only being interviewed by the Atlanta Falcons.

He was thought to be a major player in this year’s extravaganza until making the move to Chapel Hill.
