How Tom Brady will factor into Raiders’ coaching search after Antonio Pierce’s firing

Tom Brady will have his chance to fix the Raiders.

The Raiders minority owner and Fox NFL analyst will have “a lot” of influence on the team’s coaching search following former Giants linebacker Antonio Pierce’s dismissal on Tuesday, according to The Athletic.

Brady is “expected” to be part of a committee that will interview head coaching candidates and “support” owner Mark Davis, ESPN further reported.

There have been lingering questions about how much power Brady will have within the organization as a minority owner, especially since he signed a 10-year deal to serve as a Fox commentator.

Davis ultimately will have the final say on who will replace Pierce after his one-year stint, and returning general manager Tom Telesco certainly will voice which candidate he believes would be best to work alongside, but Brady’s status as the greatest quarterback in NFL history carries weight.

Brady played for just three coaches during his 23-year career, with Bill Belichick guiding him in New England and Bruce Arians and Todd Bowles helming his Tampa Bay squads.

All three coaches had prior experience, with two being defensive-minded coaches.

Experience may be needed in Las Vegas after Pierce inherited the job with no previous NFL head coaching experience.

While unstable quarterback play is more to blame than any coaching decisions, the Raiders opted to make the move after finishing 4-13 and last in the AFC West.

The perhaps tricky part of this equation is that Brady could be calling games featuring ᴀssistants whom the Raiders could be interviewing, which can create a conflict of interest.

Should Brady call a Lions game this postseason, that game will feature two of the H๏τtest names in Detroit offensive coordinator Ben Johnson and defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn.

The NFL has already established guidelines regarding Brady’s preparation for games which includes sitting out meetings with coaches and not criticizing referees and opposing players or executives.
