Woody Johnson promises new hires will make Jets fans ‘proud’

The Jets submitted interview requests for head coach and general manager candidates who are employed by teams on Monday, casting a wide net.

There were nine coaching interview requests that are known and six GM interview requests.

Those are added to the candidates who have already been known to interview or are scheduled.

The Jets are also expected to interview current interim coach Jeff Ulbrich and interim GM Phil Salvage for the full-time jobs.

In an exclusive interview with The Post before Sunday’s season finale with the Dolphins, team owner Woody Johnson said he has confidence in the team’s search process, which he is overseeing but is getting ᴀssistance from former GMs Mike Tannenbaum and Rick Spielman.

“We’re going to get someone in here that’s going to make them proud, make them proud of the team on the field and off the field,” Johnson said. “We’re only interviewing people we would hire. We’re not just doing it for fun.”

The Jets requested interviews with the following head coaching candidates: Bills offensive coordinator Joe Brady, Vikings defensive coordinator Brian Flores, Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn, 49ers quarterbacks coach Brian Griese, Broncos defensive coordinator Vance Joseph, Vikings quarterbacks coach Josh McCown, Chiefs offensive coordinator Matt Nagy, Texans offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik and Steelers offensive coordinator Arthur Smith.

The team has already interviewed former Commanders and Panthers coach Ron Rivera, former тιтans coach Mike Vrabel and is scheduled to interview Rex Ryan, who coached the Jets from 2009-14, on Tuesday.

Of the new names that emerged Monday, six were from the offensive side of the ball while three were on defense.

Four of them — Flores, Joseph, Nagy and Smith — have been head coaches before. The Jets would like to have an experienced person in one of the two jobs.

Glenn and McCown both played for the Jets.

Glenn was the team’s first-round pick in 1994. Brady and Smith both interviewed with the Jets in 2021 when the team hired Robert Saleh. Smith was a finalist for the job.

One notable name the Jets don’t plan on interviewing is Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson, who is considered one of the H๏τtest coaching candidates.

The Jets do not feel that Johnson would be a fit for them so they are not requesting an interview, according to sources.

As for the general manager interviews, there were six requests known to have been put in on Monday: Chiefs ᴀssistant general manager Mike Borgonzi, Bengals senior personnel executive Trey Brown, Rams senior personnel executive Ray Farmer, Buccaneers ᴀssistant general manager Mike Greenberg, Vikings vice president of player personnel Ryan Grigson and Eagles ᴀssistant GM Alec Halaby.

The team has already interviewed former Falcons GM Thomas Dimitroff, former тιтans GM Jon Robinson, Senior Bowl director Jim Nagy and ESPN analyst Louis Riddick.

Farmer and Grigson are former GMs, if the Jets decide they want an experienced person in that chair. Greenberg grew up on Long Island and was a Jets intern under Tannenbaum in 2008-09.

The Jets can interview the GM candidates in person, which may lead to a GM getting hired first.

As for coaches, the Jets can interview Griese, whose team is out of the playoffs as well as Glenn and Nagy, whose teams have first-round byes this week.

All coaching interviews are virtual until Jan. 20. The coaches who have playoff games this weekend cannot do a virtual interview until next week.
