Joe Namath would ‘love to see’ Aaron Rodgers back with Jets if he still wants to play

Aaron Rodgers has a supporter in Broadway Joe.

Legendary former Jets quarterback Joe Namath backed the current QB and said he would “love” to see Rodgers back with the Jets next season “if he wants to.”

The vote of confidence comes amid an uncertain future for Rodgers with the Jets or in the NFL for that matter.

Speculation has run rampant about whether he’ll be playing next season and where that could be after a disastrous Jets season came to an end on Sunday with a win over the Dolphins.

But Namath, who led the Jets to their only Super Bowl win, saw a player who looked like he could be successful in the NFL another year after Rodgers’ 276-yard and four-touchdown performance against the Dolphins in the season finale.

“After watching [Rodgers] play today, there’s no doubt he’s got at least another year in him,” Namath posted on X. “So if he WANTS to, I’d love to see him stay with the Jets. He could definitely help the new GM and coach, as well as play ball. He’s still throwing with accuracy and authority.”

Jets running back Breece Hall retweeted Namath’s post.

The four touchdown pᴀsses were a season-high for Rodgers, who wrapped up his second year as a Jet and the first that he’s played more than one series after getting hurt on the team’s opening drive in his debut last year.

But a performance like the one seen on Sunday was somewhat rare for Rodgers this season and the 41-year-old acknowledged earlier this week that he knew his time with the Jets could be coming to an end.

The Jets are hiring a new general manager and very likely a new head coach this offseason and a fresh start could include a new starting quarterback.

That’s without Rodgers possibly deciding to to retire after this season.

Rodgers was asked about his future after Sunday’s game.

“Truthfully I don’t know. I’m looking forward to those conversations with Woody and Christopher [Johnson],” Rodgers said. “Feels good to be able to do some of those things the last five or six weeks I know I was capable of doing, even at 40, 41. Either way, I won’t be upset or offended whatever they decide to do. If they want to move on, if I still want to play and if not I’ll let them know at some point if that’s the case.”

Rodgers did tell reporters that hypothetically if he did decide he still wanted to play and the Jets did want to move on from him, “the answer is yes” to playing for another team in the NFL.
