Exclusive | Woody Johnson: Son Brick has ‘no role’ in Jets decisions

Jets owner Woody Johnson acknowledged he read a recent article by The Athletic that painted him as a meddlesome owner and the Jets as a dysfunctional organization.

Johnson said the article was “absolutely untrue.”

“I think the article is a typical smear piece — unsubstantiated,” Johnson told The Post. “Nobody really stood up and put their name on anything. It’s absolutely untrue. Everything was out of context. When you’re losing games, it gives people the artistic license to kind of do what they want.”

The article quoted many anonymous sources on the state of the Jets and was particularly harsh on Johnson.

It also quoted sources saying that Johnson’s teenage son, Brick, has influence over his father and the team’s decision, something Johnson denied.

“He has no role in the organization,” Johnson said.

Johnson did acknowledge that he brings his sons around to learn the business, just as his great grandfather did when he was running Johnson & Johnson.

“In my family, my great grandfather took my grandfather to meetings when he was a teenager,” Johnson said. “He’d dress up in a suit and go to meetings. That’s the way you teach the next generation. That’s what you do. It’s an apprenticeship. Does he have any decision making? Absolutely not. No decision making, despite what you might read.”
