Jeff Ulbrich disagreed with Sauce Gardner.
Days after Gardner said his teammates “checked out” in their 40-14 loss to the Bills on Sunday, the Jets’ interim head coach had a different view.
“I took a hard look at the tape,” Ulbrich said Friday. “I really did, and not because of his comments, but I took a hard look at the tape because that’s what you do in times like this. I said it before: Adversity is a gift, and it really reveals people. And I looked hard at this tape, and I especially looked hard when the score got out of whack, and I didn’t see anything, anything.
“I didn’t see one human being tapping. I didn’t see one guy relenting. I didn’t. That’s my take on it.”
Gardner was ruled out for Sunday’s finale against the Dolphins with a hamstring injury.
Tyler Conklin, Morgan Moses, Alijah Vera-Tucker and Quinnen Williams are questionable.
The Jets likely won’t be facing Tua Tagovailoa as they try to spoil the Dolphins’ playoff hopes.
Tagovailoa is listed as doubtful and is unlikely to play Sunday due to a hip injury, Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel said Friday.
Tagovailoa missed the Dolphins’ Week 17 win over the Browns with the injury, which he suffered during the team’s Week 16 loss to the Texans.
Tyler Huntley is expected to make his fifth start of the season in Tagovailoa’s place.
During the Dolphins’ 32-26 win over the Jets in Week 13, Tagovailoa completed 33 of 47 pᴀsses for 331 yards and two touchdowns.
In four starts this year, Huntley has completed 66.3 percent of his pᴀsses for 602 yards, two touchdowns and an interception, along with 119 rushing yards and two more touchdowns on the ground.
The Dolphins officially eliminated the Jets from the playoffs — marking the team’s 14th straight year without a playoff appearance — with that Week 13 win.
The Jets can return the favor and eliminate the Dolphins from the playoffs with a win Sunday.
Miami needs a win and a Broncos loss in order to reach the playoffs.
